Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in New Zealand. 2 out of every 3 New Zealanders will develop skin cancer. Most skin cancers can be cured with early diagnosis and treatment. The sooner skin cancers are detected the simpler the treatment.
Dr Orsbourn has undertaken training in Dermoscopy (he is a Member of the Skin Cancer College of Australia and New Zealand ) to detect melanoma and other skin cancers. This is the most accurate, thorough and comprehensive skin cancer and melanoma check available. Apart from skin cancer detection, dermoscopic technology also enables Dr Orsbourn to diagnose many types of benign growths, therefore avoiding unnecessary anxieties and surgery.
Skin examinations are conducted using a hand-held, surface microscope (dermoscope).
Areas which have the potential to become skin cancers later (pre-cancerous keratoses), can be treated with cryotherapy during the examination. Age-spots and sun-spots can also treated during the examination if requested. If surgical excision is required, this is carried out at a subsequent appointment.
We are now an Affiliated Provider for Southern Cross so often Southern Cross Members are able to have examinations and treatments free of charge. Other Insurance Companies (including Sovereign) provide cove for minor surgery for the excision of skin lesions, moles and cysts.
