A safe and convenient method of diminishing the appearance of small unsightly veins, Microsclerotherapy works on spider and thread veins on your face and legs. An ultra fine needle injects a fluid (sclerosant) that makes the vein wall stick to itself eventually obliterating it.
Anyone can suffer with thread (red, spider or broken) veins, and they can appear on any part of the body. Although harmless, they can cause distress, as the sufferer often feels self-conscious – particularly if the veins are on an exposed part of the body, such as the legs, which people can see.
There is usually minimal or no discomfort during microsclerotherapy injections, due to the size of the needle and the superficial injection technique. Following injections, a compression stocking is applied, which must be worn for several days to help assist shrinkage of the veins.
The number of treatments necessary to clear or improve the condition differs with each patient and depends on the extent of the veins. One to six treatments may be needed, but the average is three to four. The majority of people who have sclerotherapy will see good improvement but unfortunately effectiveness isn’t guaranteed. Approximately 10% of veins do not disappear after six treatments.
